Charlie Stayt was back on Thursday to host BBC Breakfast along with Nina Warhurst.

BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt sparked a backlash among viewers on Thursday after he presented the show from Downing Street - instead of the studio in Salford. Nina Warhurt also replaced regular host Naga Munchetty and held the fort on the iconic red sofa.

Charlie was at Downing Street to report on Rishi Sunak's recent announcement about the General Elections, which will be held on July 4. The presenter also spoke with the Prime Minister during the programme and things got a tad heated during Charlie's line of questioning.

Taking to X to share their thoughts, one fan asked: "Simple question - what purpose is served by Charlie being outside No10 this morning?"

"Why? You could do this in the studio," another quizzed while a third went on: "What is the point of #bbcbreakfast Charlie presenting the programme from outside Downing Street today?"

"Why? Could even have done the interview online ....#wasteofmoney," someone else complained.

Other fans complained about the show's coverage with one simply stating: "Bored already."

"Sick to death of it already #gmb #bbcbreakfast," one fan fumed.

Another echoed: "There's more to politics than just green issues.... not heard about how they're going to make everything better than now #bbcbreakfast." (sic)

The BBC Breakfast X account also took to social media to state Charlie was reporting live from No.10.

Along with a photo, the account wrote: "Live from Downing Street #BBCBreakfast on the first full day of the 2024 election campaign."

The snap showed Charlie and political respondent Henry Zeffman standing in front of the camera as they were about to speak live on air.

During their on-air interview, Henry discussed the Prime Minister's announcement, he said: "It was really wet, it was so wet that I was standing under a massive golf umbrella and nevertheless my suit is still a bit wet.

"It was drenching for the Prime Minster and clearly, he was determined to persevere anyway because actually, he displayed some of his message about his willingness to make tough choices."

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
