Shopping while short is always challenging, but there’s likely no garment that strikes fear in the heart of petite women quite like the jumpsuit. As someone who’s five-foot-one, they’re one of the hardest pieces to find, because either the inseam goes past my feet or the fitted waist is closer to my hips. Vanessa Youshaei, founder and CEO of Petite Ave, a personal-shopping service for women under five-foot-five, advises that “adjustable straps help ensure the upper half fits, and knowing your inseam ensures that the bottom half isn’t too long.” While there’s always the option of getting a jumpsuit tailored to your specific proportions, if you want one you can wear straight off the rack, check out the styles below recommended by a panel of fashionable women — all five-foot-three or under.

We weren’t surprised that multiple utility jumpsuits were recommended, since they’ve become more of a closet staple than a trendy item. Two stylish women name-checked Good American’s 100 percent cotton utility jumpsuit. Isabel Floresca, who’s five-foot-two, likes that it hits right at her ankles and has adjustable buttons at the waist, ensuring that it “fits perfectly.” Petite-plus influencer Tinsaye Berhanu (who’s five-foot-two) is another fan, adding that she appreciates the brand’s range of sizes (this jumpsuit’s available in sizes XS to 5XL). It’s “very comfortable and easy to style casually but can also be amped up with heels and accessories,” she adds. It comes in seven shades, including an off-white that both Floresca and Berhanu own.

Berhanu, who “loves Universal Standard for most things,” says “they really get it right with their jumpsuits and bodysuits.” As with the rest of its line, its sizes range from 4XS to 4XL. This utility jumpsuit has a wide leg cut, making it “breathable and easy to move around in,” Berhanu says. “It accommodates many shapes because of its relaxed shape and design.”

For a twill option, blogger Heather Summers recommends Buck Mason’s utility jumpsuit. The 26.5-inch inseam “hits right where it should —no alterations needed,” she says. She likes layering hers with a turtleneck underneath and a long coat on colder days. “It’s the perfect balance between structured and relaxed, the perfect layering piece, the ‘one and done’ wardrobe staple every petite person needs,” she says.

Big Bud Press is a longtime favorite —it’s on our roundups of best jumpsuits and best plus-size jumpsuits, and multiple folks on staff are fans. That includes Strategist junior writer Kitty Guo, who’s five-foot-three and owns the Everyday jumpsuit in XXS. Its 29-inch inseam hits right at her ankles, so if you’re shorter than five-three, we caution it might be too long. As for its fit, she says it was “a little bit tight at first, but the description says it’s meant to like stretch out and conform to your body with more wear.”

Abercrombie offers petite-specific sizes that range from XXS to XL. Petite-plus influencer Natalie Craig says this is “perfect for my plus size and petite figure.” It hits her right at the waist and has a tie feature (instead of buttons like the above), which “accentuates your figure,” she says.

[Editor’s note: The petite version of this jumpsuit is available in limited sizes.]

Kule’s content and partnerships manager Elizabeth Tamkin says Lacausa’s jumpsuits “have a cropped pant leg, so they are good for us shorter people.” (This one lists its inseam at 25 inches.) She adds that its structured ones are “fitted and loose in all the right places. To me, nothing in a jumpsuit is worse than one that is tight on the stomach but loose in the chest!”

There were also some recommendations for more dressy jumpsuits, one of which surprisingly comes from the shapewear company Spanx. Maybe not as surprising is that Berhanu says this four-way stretch ponte jumpsuit “fits like a glove,” and Craig says it “hugs my curves just right.” Craig adds that it “fits my petite frame perfectly.”

A good tip from five-foot-tall Jessica Turk, a petite fashion blogger: “If the model is five-foot-nine and it looks like a cropped length, there’s a good chance it will be full-length on you. If it looks super-cropped — around the model’s knees — you know it will be a great cropped jumpsuit for you, probably hitting above the ankle.” Berniedette, a four-foot-11 blogger, says she’s had good luck finding flattering jumpsuits at Lulus (and it happens to list all inseam lengths). We took both Turk and Berniedette’s advice and found this festive metallic pleated jumpsuit, which has an inseam length of 24 inches.

We also found these alternatives —a satin sleeveless number and an off-the-shoulder option that comes in three fun prints — which both have inseams under 25 inches.

For a variety of styles in petite sizes, Alicia Pettit, who’s five-foot-two, says she “can always count on” ASOS. These jumpsuits don’t list the inseams, but they’re styled on models who are actually petite, so you can get a sense of how they’ll look on your frame. And these hit above the ankles, in case you’re still worried about the inseam length.

When we spoke to stylish women for the best plus-size jumpsuits, Sotela’s Lima jumpsuit was recommended by model and writer Lydia Okello. It sizes its garments from zero to ten and offers this jumpsuit in a petite inseam for those under five-foot-four. According to its size chart, the petite inseam starts at 23.75 inches and increases as sizes go up to 26.75 inches.

If you’re worried about the inseam of the above (since they increase with size), the brand also offers a more cropped option that starts at 21.75 inches and goes up to 24.5 inches. It comes in the same colors as above, too, but is made with sleeves (either short or three-quarters length).
