When we think about lounging around the house, certain pieces of clothing and accessories come to mind. Our ideal lazy day outfit consists of sweatpants or PJs, paired with a robe and a quality pair of slippers. But not all house shoes are alike, and shopping for men’s slippers with arch support is important, especially if you want to ease the stress on your feet and back or avoid injuries like rolling your ankle.
“To promote comfort and avoid foot strain, I advise searching for slippers with sufficient arch support,” podiatrist and the Director of In Stride Clinic, Kathryn Miller, tells StyleCaster. “The best slippers should feature a footbed that is molded to fit the natural curve of the foot, providing support where it’s most required.”

What to Look for in Slippers With Arch Support, According to a Podiatrist
Aside from a footbed that supports the shape of your foot, Miller adds that “improved alignment and lessened foot pressure can be achieved with a firm sole that is slightly elevated at the heel.”
She also recommends paying attention to materials and looking for slippers that “use breathable, natural textiles,” which will help to keep feet dry and comfortable.
Maurice Verhagen, owner and certified podiatrist at Netherlands-based Penninx Schoenen, adds that it’s important to know whether your arch type is low, medium, or high, this way you can select a slipper that provides the perfect amount of support. He also recommends taking into account heel height when shopping.
“A minimum heel height of 15 to 20mm is ideal to support the arch and improve pressure distribution while walking or standing,” Verhagen says.
Why Wear Slippers With Arch Support?
“Choosing the right slipper is paramount for maintaining good foot health and preventing foot-related issues,” Verhagen tells StyleCaster.
Having slippers with arch support also creates a good foundation, which works to distribute weight evenly and helps with balance. Not having enough arch support may also contribute to back problems.
What to Avoid in Slippers if You Need Arch Support
“Be careful of memory foam!” warns Joshua Lisonbee, DPM, a podiatrist who practices in the Seattle area. “There’s nothing inherently wrong with memory foam, but it’s not providing much support either. A lot of brands like to advertise this feature as a cure-all for sore feet, but most memory foam compresses down quickly under your body weight and stops being effective after just a few minutes. If all they’ve done is put a layer of memory foam inside an otherwise flat shoe, it’s going to feel good while
you’re trying it on in the store, but disastrous once you bring it home and start using it more regularly.”
Miller also tells us that it might be better to wait until later in the day to test out any slippers.
“To make sure slippers fit properly, my general recommendation is to try them on toward the end of the day when your feet are usually at their widest,” she says.
Vionic Gustavo Slipper
Sizes Available: 7 – 13
Color Options: 3
Materials: A suede upper, rubber outsole, and an EVA footbed covered in technical faux shearling.
Pros: Almost every podiatrist we spoke to dropped this shoe brand as their go-to for supportive slippers, and customers claim they keep coming back for additional pairs — they’re that good!
Cons: Although these slippers seem to live up to the hype, some say sizing runs big. So if you want your feet to feel extra secure, go a half-size down.Vionic Gustavo Slipper

Orthofeet Men's Orthopedic Faux Fur Lined Tuscany Slippers
Sizes Available: 7 – 14, including wide options
Color Options: 1
Materials: A suede outer with padded faux fur lining and a rubber sole.
Pros: Along with Vionic, Miller recommends Orthofeet “because of their reputation for producing supportive, orthopedically built slippers.” While the brand sells bulkier slides that come with adjustable straps, this particular pair looks more like your average moccasins.
Cons: They’re supportive, they’re warm, but if you hate the brown colorway, you’re out of luck.Orthofeet Men’s Orthopedic Faux Fur Lined Tuscany Slippers

OOFOS OOahh Slide - Lightweight Recovery Footwear
Sizes Available: 3 – 14
Color Options: 17
Materials: 100% synthetic and includes OOfoam™ technology, which absorbs 37% more impact than traditional footwear foam materials.
Pros: If you’re not into faux fur and fuzzy materials, Lisonbee recommends rocking supportive sandals instead, specifically shouting out OOFOS as a great brand to shop. “You can see the arch support built into the footbed a lot more easily than you can with slippers, so you know exactly what you’re getting before you even buy.”
Cons: Since your toes are exposed, they won’t be the warmest.OOFOS OOahh Slide – Lightweight Recovery Footwear

Clarks Mens Suede Venetian Moccasin Slipper
Sizes Available: 7 – 14
Color Options: 8
Materials: Suede outer, rubber sole, and a faux fur interior.
Pros: According to Lisonbee, some of his patients benefit from around-the-clock support. “Since most people don’t want to wear street shoes inside their homes, this inevitably leads to talking
about slippers or sandals,” he says. The good news is that Clarks’ slippers can pull double duty — comfy enough for kicking back and relaxing, but sturdy enough to slip on for a quick errand, such as walking the dog.
Cons: Unfortunately, half-sizes aren’t available.Clarks Mens Suede Venetian Moccasin Slipper

Dearfoams Men's Alpine Brixen Indoor/Outdoor Memory Foam Comfort Boot
Sizes Available: 7/8 – 13/14
Color Options: 10
Materials: A microwool and microsuede upper, natural wool-blend lining, and a lightweight, thermalplastic rubber outsole.
Pros: Looking for more of a bootie than a slide? Check out this cozy pair from Dearfoams. The footbed is contoured and shock-absorbing for supportive comfort all day long, but should you need something sturdier, it’s also removable — a must-have detail, according to Verhagen, since it allows you to add your own podiatric insoles.
Cons: These babies are warm, so beware of sweaty feet. And, while they may be advertised as being outdoor-friendly, they’re more of a quick-trip type of slipper rather than an actual boot.Dearfoams Men’s Alpine Brixen Indoor/Outdoor Memory Foam Comfort Boot

Materials: Anatomically correct cork footbed and a flexible EVA outsole.
Pros: Birkenstock sandals are podiatrist-approved for a multitude of reasons, including the supportive sole. “A footbed made of cork is recommended due to its natural, breathable properties that provide durable support without sagging,” Verhagen tells us. Lisonbee also points out that the brand can work with you to create customized orthotics based on your prescription, this way your shoes will fit perfectly.
Cons: Since they’re not actually slippers, you might end up wearing them outdoors instead of slipping them on inside the house.Birkenstock Arizona Birkibuc
