Easy Key Lime Pie Dip Recipe (1)

Much like the filling for No-Bake Mini Cheesecakes, you can serve this creamy key lime mixture in a graham cracker crust. That's what we did at our meal prep stores. No oven is needed.

But another option is to enjoy this light and fluffy mixture with no crust at all. You'll save a few calories and have so many ways to enjoy it. This versatile dip is perfect for dipping fruits and cookies or even as a topping for other desserts.

You can also make single-serving portions for the freezer for a cool treat at a moment's notice.

This can be a super easy recipe. Or, you can take an extra step and make it extra special. We'll give you all the options.

Ingredients

Below are the basic ingredients to make this key lime pie dip recipe:

  • Cool Whip or any whipped topping of your choice.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk gives this dip a rich, creamy texture.
  • Key Lime Juice from fresh key limes or from a bottle.

That's all you need to make a delicious key lime dip. However, be sure to check out how to take it to the next level below.

Key Limes vs. Key Lime Juice

Don't even think about using Persian limes readily available in the grocery store. Key limes are more acidic and have more bite. I can always tell when an imposter has been used in this recipe.

Unfortunately, key limes are very, verysmall and labor-intensive to juice. Check out the size in the picture below.

If you use real key limes, then zest 2 to punch up the key lime flavor even more. Why not?!

If you're not up for juicing limes, then try Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime Juice. It's the best! We use it in our Key Lime Cookies too.

Optional Toasted Coconut

Give key lime pie dip a crunchy texture and color from toasted coconut! Here's how to do it:

  1. Place sweetened or unsweetened coconut in a skillet and cook for about 5 minutes over medium-high heat. You don't need to do anything to the skillet first.
  2. Shake the pan or stir the coconut frequently to ensure it doesn't burn.

Don't bother with the toasting step if you are okay with a slightly chewy texture. And if you're not a fan of coconut, then leave it out altogether.

Directions

Here's how to make this key lime pie dip recipe:

  1. Add whipped topping, sweetened condensed milk, key lime juice, and coconut (if using) to a bowl and mix everything together. Use an electric hand mixer for the best results.
    • Save some toasted coconut to sprinkle on top!
  2. Do a taste test. You'll like it. You may even love it. But it will be a little runny. Allow the dip to firm up in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. In about an hour, it will be even firmer, and you'll like it even more!

What to Serve With Key Lime Pie Dip

There are many ways to serve this dessert dip recipe:

  • Enjoy with Fruit: Fresh fruits like strawberries, pineapple, raspberries, and sliced bananas or apples can pair well with the tangy and sweet flavor of the key lime pie dip.
  • Serve with Cookies and Crackers: Classic options are Graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and butter cookies. Pretzels are a nice salty contrast to the sweetness of the dip.
  • Pair with Chocolate: Chocolate cookies, chocolate-covered strawberries, or brownie bites are a decadent combination. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top!
  • Make a trifle: Layer crumbled graham crackers, dip, and fruit. Mason jars are great for single servings.
  • Make a traditional pie: Fill a full-size or individual-sized graham cracker crusts.
  • Use as a frosting: Slather on top of cookies, cupcakes, or pastries.
  • A spoon!

How to FreezeKey Lime Dip

For your next party, make it ahead of time! Store it in the freezer in a shallow, freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.

I like to use smaller, 1-cup containers for leftovers.

When you're ready to enjoy it, defrost frozen servings in the refrigerator for several hours or microwave for about 5 seconds.

I've been making this as a pie recipe since I was a kid in the 1970s. We always poured the filling into graham cracker crusts, but I can definitely see how it would work here as individual servings. The filling is delicious!
