Why I Started Real Girl Review
What started as a passion for travel and sharing fun stories and adventures turned into something way more…
Scouring the web for ideas and tips for my travels, I noticed there weren’t a whole lot of reviews from online sources that weren’t sponsored ad placements.
This is when I realized a need for authentic reviews. And just like that, “Real Girl Review” was born. My aim is to always share reviews that are “Fun, Friendly, and Informative”.
Whether I’m sharing a recommendation for a destination, experience, hotel, restaurant, spa, or product, you better believe my reviews are 100% authentic and unbiased. Most of the things I do are paid for out of my own pocket.
My Life Before Traveling Full-Time
I’m often asked how I am able to travel the world and experience so many things.. Although it may look like my life is perfect online, it’s not always how it appears. Until just a few years ago, my life was pretty much one lived in isolation.
Honestly, if I could go back in time just a few years ago and take a peek at the life I’m able to live now, I wouldn’t believe it could happen.
Just like anyone, I have my ups and downs.. You see… I have this annoying thing called Lupus. You might have heard of the autoimmune disease or maybe even know someone who has it… It’s kind of like an “invisible illness” that attacks your body internally and externally without your control.
The symptoms came on strong in my teens and weren’t under control until I hit my mid 20’s.
Unfortunately, as a result, I had to forgo many normal everyday things as I spent the first several years (after being diagnosed at 17) dealing with the condition, finding myself in and out of hospitals and doctors’ offices.
Lupus kicks me in the butt sometimes, not gonna lie.. but I never let it win. Ultimately, my love for life takes over and when it does, it’s larger than life itself. I’ve learned that life is too short to not appreciate it any chance we get.
Honestly, being motivated by life is the only thing that’s gotten me through difficult times. For that reason, I believe my Lupus makes me stronger. I have so much appreciation for life and feel grateful that I get to live it every day. Maybe, that’s how I’m able to take so much enjoyment from things.
Through Real Girl Review, I hope to remind you to never let the bad things win and to not be afraid of living the life you were meant to live.
Bit By the Travel Bug
After figuring out how to deal with Lupus, I decided to grab life by the proverbial reins and ride it for all that I could. First step… TRAVEL. And boy did I ever!
The last 8+ years, I have been fortunate enough to travel to places I only ever used to read about in my magazines. For the last few years, I’ve traveled extensively for approximately 175 days/yr. on average. I have now visited every US state except for damn North Dakota, ah! I missed that one in 2022 on my epic 30 state roadtrip across the US from coast to coast.
I have also started venturing out to more parts of the world and am racking up countries. Summer 2023, I went on an adventure of a lifetime and spent 3 months in 10 different countries. Some of my favorite adventures were in Iceland, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Bahamas, Mexico, Ireland, Greece, Italy, France, Monaco, Switzerland….
And I’m just getting started. My goal is 30 countries by 30! I still have so many amazing places to explore.
